CHARLES HUNT HUNTING SCENES

Published by Louis Brall & Sons, 6 Prescott Street, Goodman's Fields, on 1st January 1873. There were two Charles Hunts, father and son, both prominent in the sporting print trade. The father was born in 1806, the son in 1830. Both engraved their own designs and those of their contemporaries and they frequently collaborated on plates. This set, then, could be the work of either or of both. The four scenes depict the classic phases of the fox-hunt: the gathering of huntsmen and hounds at an appointed spot; the fox fleeing from cover into open country; hounds and horses in hot pursuit; and, finally, the death of the quarry
