Jay Boyd Kirkman's latest edition is a racecourse scene based on the parade ring at Newcastle after the bell has rung warning the jockeys to mount their horses. Composed as though the viewer is at the ringside, the nearest two horses are moving past and the heads are seen only in part on either side of the picture. In the centre, racehorses, jockeys and grooms are lining up on the path to parade before going out for a hurdle race. Several of the horses are based on local heroes of National Hunt (jumps) racing. In the distance some partial views of the white-railed course and woodland boundary can be seen. Above is what the artist describes as "a big sky, broken clouds and strong autumn winds".
